I ran into a friend that just got back from the dentist's. She's had a terrible experience being there..lol! I wonder what we do with our teeth that it takes us so much just to care for them. The outcome is rather a sorry case. She's narrated a very gory experience to me and i'm like 'what the heck??' Sophie you went through all these...common! She's had three infected teeth and its necessary she removed them to save her from sleepless nights and worst nightmares of a green monster threatening to take off her whole set of teeth!
Now Sophie is a fan of every sweet thing you can ever think of, she's an absolute sweet-tooth! She craves for everything sweet, those colourful candies, gummies, waffles, paninis, ice cream, caramel, chocolates, cookies and the likes. She wouldn't just stop! I know there are a lot of us like that. I will just take us through what my dear friend experienced at the dentist's:
9:00am at the dentist's, Sophie is seated with her mouth capped up in her right palm, pouting and grimacing in heavy unbearable pains. Earlier on, the dentist has concluded on tooth decay and some sort of weakness in her gum and the best option is to have an operation in her buccal cavity...OMG! And now, the Root Canal Therapy! Sophie would have to undergo that. Root Canal has to do with some kinda dental operation that involves correcting disorders of the dental pulp or damaged part of the teeth. It took Sophie as long as two hours to get this pain done with.
And now the process, Sophie laid down there hoping it was just gonna be a one-off process. She was given some injections to calm her nerves down but really did that work?..lmaoo! She told me how she tried to close her eyes to prevent her from seeing whatever was happening around her but it didn't just work out. And then the injecting needle came close...how dreadful! It was like an engineer was about to drill a hole through a metal surface! And then gsszzzz....there was the first tooth being drilled and particles splashed all over her mouth in the process (Imagine a brick wall being demolished). That was just to make a hole in the tooth that would enhance cleaning off whatever dirt or harmful particle that was stuck in there overtime. She gagged a substance in her mouth to wash away the particles and whoosh!..she spat the substance out, that was just the first tooth. She would go through this process two more times, Sophie could not have imagined! Indeed a painful experience.
After successfully digging the hole..lol! (I'd like to put it that way because i mean no harm and she's my friend, but i don't pity her! After all, she was warned severally). The hole is to be filled with...i dont knw what to call it, (i mean I'm no dentist, just a writer) lemme just say 'cement'. Yet another painful experience. This is where a powdery substance is molded into the hole created to fill it up and glued to the existing tooth to keep it firm..whatever it is, it's like an artificial back up to keep the dead tooth alive. such mastery of art!! Sophie went through this process three times, you can imagine hell on earth! She saw how the 'drilling machine' went in and out of her mouth, how her gum was subdued to pressure like boiling meat, different sharp objects used in her mouth and worst of all, the fact that she could feel every bit of pain running through her brain down to her spine! What more torture can one ask for? And guess what? the whole root canal therapy did not work out! In less than a month, what was supposed to last for a lifetime was destroyed into bits and pieces!! The teeth could not stand gnashing pressure and the so called 'refilling' cement thing scattered all over Sophie's mouth..just like that! It's frustrating, innit? Thank God it didnt cost my friend her life. She's alive today well and strong with three of her teeth totally extracted this time no pains whatsoever. But the good thing is i get to chew all her pieces of beef for her...lol!
Now the moral of the story: My fellows, please please and please appreciate every single part of your body as little as a single strand on your head. If it means doing away from chocolate and gagging salt water everyday to keep your teeth healthy, my dear it pays. Like it is said; an apple a day keeps the doctor away. Deprive yourself from too much of everything to live longer and healthier. Moderation is key! Stay Healthy!!
